Re: "New moderation policy: US politics"

In: s/meta

I'd also like to state, much like stack, that being as a self-admitted critic of where the line draws for debate between argument as I've made a post on Station concerning this very topic of exchange: I also hope I haven't negatively colored any decisions here which concern how people interact and w/ what topics. There should be something for everyone, where appropriate. I'm not ever one to try and halt the discourse people choose to have, yet will whole-heartedly make my personal decision and to whatever best ability compel others to responsibly engage where sensible and to withdraw when irrational. That's always a personal matter that should be personally defined. No qualms to enforcement, just my two cents.

@stack To be clear, there is no muting policy. Your posts are in US-politics as regular posts, with normal commenting. Whether anyone wants to mute the subspace is up to them.

I originally flagged the posts invisible in All Posts but they're unflagged now that the subspace exists.

When it comes to other topics, you (all) are welcome to make subspaces for them if you feel there is something meaningful to discuss, within the rules of the Code of Conduct.

Also to answer your question, I at least do care about what goes on in the US, politically and otherwise, and follow a set of trustworthy sources for this purpose.

Social media is not among such sources.

Unfortunately, the state of politics in the US is such that discussions online are either just futile preaching to the choir or heated arguments without common ground. I wish you luck, though, both with having meaningful discourse here and elsewhere, and with the fate of your country.

😠 such censorship, literally 1984

(thank you)

I, for one, strongly support this policy and have immediately muted the subspace. I moved away from that horrible place for a reason and I'd rather not even think about it anymore if possible.

New moderation policy: US politics — I have created a new subspace: /s/US-politics All posts concerning this topic (e.g., the presidential election/candidates, internal affairs) will be moved to this subspace. I suggest that if you want to discuss or vent about this topic, make your post directly in s/US-politics, or perhaps on your own gemlog. The rationale for this change is that US politics is a highly controversial topic that is likely to result in unproductive or hostile comment threads....
