i have been swimming through the winter but not as often as in previous years: work patterns, weather, and home duties:-( it seems that i stayed acclimated to cold water swimming: and my long shivering warm-up time afterwards (normal for me).
being between jobs, better weather, and clearing home duties i'm swimming most days again. my watch measured the temperature as a maximum of 12C today: better than the 9C of the last months:-) there again part of the point of doing the sea swimming is to get cold in the first place lol.
with warmer days i've stopped taking the decathlon robe so everything fits in my running pack.
- decathlon nabaiji briefs
- slightly insulated well worn beach slip-ons
- 2 mm neoprene swimming cap
- silicone ear plugs
- mask and snorkel tube
today i ran down (4 km 16m ascent) to swim (about 16 min in the water), warmed up on slipway in sunshine, ran back up home (3 km 87m ascent on the direct route). i add about 5 mins warm up and cool down to each end of the runs. happy days:-)
my swim was to the right of fort grey; good for mid-tide to low-tide swims. the water on this side comes and goes quickly so be aware which way the tide is going!
a pic of the other side of fort grey showing why it is not so good for mid to low tide siwms:-)
