Blondie Hits the Jackpot

1949

2

This is, uh... the romance one, I guess?

So Mr. Radcliffe is trying to win a building contract, as always. The man he's trying to win it from, Mr. Hutchins, is having a birthday party for his daughter, Louise, so Radcliffe decides that Dagwood's son Alexander would be the perfect date for her. It turns out he's not, because he decides to dance with another girl instead, which makes Louise very angry. Dagwood spies on the party and due to some kind of misunderstanding, he punches Mr. Hutchins into the pool. This gets him fired, and he ends up having to work on a construction site to pay the bills. They happen to be constructing Mr. Hutchins' building, and Dagwood overhears the shady foreman talking about how they're going to just cover up some major cracks in the steel beams to pass inspection. Dagwood exposes them, gets his job back, and ends up being placed in charge of the whole project. Louise also exposes herself as a spoiled brat, and gets a spanking in one of the more than a little awkward final scenes. Also, Blondie wins a contest on the radio, and the prize is the handsomest dog in the country, which excites Daisy considerably.

The best thing I can say about this installment is that at least it's a bit different from the others. Alexander grows up and does new things, Dagwood tries his hand at other jobs in an interesting montage, and, uh... there's a new mailman. At least they added a bit of variety. And Dagwood got into a fight on a construction site. Always a plus.

Still incredibly boring, though.
