X-Dev.USR is a C64 user-port based transfer device, intended for cross development.
There are, of course, many fine solutions to transfer data to a C64 or run code in an emulator, but I am working on an IEEE-488 cartridge project that requires testing on an actual machine with a specific cartridge mounted, ruling out LAN solutions like CodeNet or anything else that requires a cartridge.
To be able to iterate fast, and not swap SD cards in a SD2IEC reader all the time, I came up with this.
A small NMI-driven server runs in the background on the C64 (about $0100 bytes, currently). I can then cross assemble on the PC, transfer to the C64, execute the code, rinse, repeat.
It can also reset the C64 remotely.
