I announced a new game "Wordsquirreller" the other week, but it had unnecessarily complicated mechanics which I suspect put some potential players off. I've since trimmed and optimised the game, and now I think it's pretty neat.
Capital letters like the G below are nuts, which you want to bring to the surface.
i i d n G m e a
You do this by taking successive anagrams, as follows. Pick a sequence of letters in a path starting at the surface; if it spells a word, you can reorder the letters arbitrarily, and otherwise you may reorder them if doing so forms a word. Example:
i i d n nerd drne i i e d iienmg gemini G e m d G m r e --------> G m n r ------------> i n i r
The first move is allowed because "nerd" is a word, the second because "gemini" is a word.
Here's a little puzzle. Bring the Q to the surface. It's possible in 2 moves.
a e u w j c Q p i
(Diagonals aren't allowed, and a path can't cross itself.)
In the multiplayer game Wordsquirreller, you use this mechanic to dig up nuts other players have buried, and to bury them where no-one else will find them.
