Hypertext in Emacs: find-file-at-point

The org-mode extension to emacs is popular in part because it lets you create and follow hyperlinks between files. This is useful for keeping notes organized.

Depending on your needs, you may not need org-mode for simple linked notes. That's because there is a standard emacs keybinding that lets you open the file path under your cursor.

The first two keypresses invoke the "find-file" command, the last autocompletes using "find-file-at-point".

I find this particularly useful when I'm editing the notes, formatted as gemtext, that constitute this site. Thanks to this command, I haven't seen the need to install a special gemtext mode.
