Not just skimming, but actual reading, like you would a book...
So I thought I'd put this to the test, starting with a short book I haven't read yet:
Converted to gemtext from the wikilivres.ca archive preserved by archive.org.
Having not read it before, I didn't know the importance of its illustrations, and think it's kept nicely readable by how Lagrange (my Gemini browser) expands illustrations in-line as each one is clicked. Unfortunately for the Little Prince, that feature is up to the browser and they don't all choose to include images in-line.
Wikilivres was a Canadian site for hosting works in the public domain (Canada's public domain).

I see there's a gemini based ebook format called Gempub which some Gemini clients can already read, these books are not gempubs, but there's a tool for that
