They do! I used a Fujifilm Z10fd set to 4 megapixels resolution to reduce the overall file size for faster loading over Gemini. 800K is better than 3.2 megabytes per image, that is for certain. I found that its standard 7 megapixel resolution produced the same size images as my Pixel 6a's main wide sensor, so I needed to keep the resolution down in order to reduce file size. As a result, images load faster.
I think some new stuff really sucks. I also missed out on most of it due to my young age. Take a guess the year I was born - it was the year the Space Shuttle flew after the post-Columbia standdown.
I also prefer tape and film over digital equivalents because they're actually rather exciting to me - digital is so boring.
My money goes towards literally nothing else. It's a waste, yes. Keeps me distracted from the outside world though.
