If people are not free to express their opinion this would be a real problem.

I am not sure if you misunderstood the situation, but it is cool having an 
opposite opinion if we use a civil communication tone; for instance I 
totally dislike the BDFL concept but I am happy that SolderPunk came back, 
this will help to get to the point quickly.

Something that I observed in the mailing list was the struggling to 
interpret his vision properly, with him once again actively involved in 
the process people can confront directly with him. 

Finalizing the specs quickly will help implementers and capsulers to be on 
the same page, it will be a big benefits for all of us!
