Hi, I’m jbehnke747 and I live in Wisconsin, USA. I am 41 years old and new to this part of the Internet. I have a wife and two sons: the oldest is 12 and the other is 6. We also have a dog named Mazie, who is a lab and border collie mix, and a cat named Gracie.
I was a Windows fan from the time I first learned how to use a computer in the late 1990's but have recently entered the Linux world and plan to stay here. I recently discovered Gopherspace and now Gemini from Distrotube on YouTube and wanted to make somewhat of a home in this part of the Internet, as I find it to be very interesting and fresh.
I am making this post using the Lagrange Gemini client (Flatpak) in PeppermintOS (a Debian-based Linux distribution) on a 12-year-old Toshiba Satellite L655 laptop that originally shipped with Windows 7. I inherited this computer from my parents, who upgraded to an iPad a year or so ago. I have a modern laptop, but it is quite small because it is of the 2-in-1 convertible laptop and tablet design, so sometimes I prefer to use this older computer for general computing. It was almost unusable when I got it from my parents because it couldn't handle Windows 7 anymore due to the bloated size of the operating system after about 11 years of updates. I have been able to squeeze some more life out of it by installing PeppermintOS on it, as it is very a very light-weight operating system so it runs well on older machines. I plan to upgrade the RAM to 8GB sometime soon, which should further improve the performance of the machine. If I remember correctly it has 3 GB of RAM now, which is the original, factory stock size.
What will I write about here in the future? Perhaps a little about my Christian faith? My family and I believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he was crucified, buried, and rose from the grave 3 days later. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, as it is written in the Bible. I won't attempt to shove God down your throat because I don't believe that is an effective approach to helping save people's souls. I do, however, hope that you might keep an open mind to my belief that God is real and that Jesus loves you and wants you to know Him. I might also write about my home, which is a small, 3-bedroom house, but has some historical value to it because it was built in or around 1865 by members of a family who migrated west from Portland, Maine.
Thank you for reading my first gemlog post. This has been fun, and I hope you will stop by again!
