Okay.. that was fibbing just slightly...
- automating and melding otherwise disparate systems via scripting (bash/perl) and/or early APIs without the effort/pain being mostly about security (of course, that was in large part because there were less morons...)
- page loads on a 486 that would rate as "impossibly blindingly fast" compared to the molasses of page loads on modern, much higher-powered machines
- the naive - yet still convincing - illusion that the dreams of the founders were still possible
