This is my last post. What Gemini needs. 1. Everything Gemini-first. 2. Gemini has TLS, so no more logins via email or HTTPS. 3. A pastebin serving as a simple code repository. 4. A more fully featured Reddit-like service enabling better content discovery and conversations. 5. A hack around the 700 character limit. (I don't want to hear you crying.) 6. A developer ecosystem built around standard functions. (As described in my post about Lagrange.) 7. Hack to facilitate large file transfers. (It's not hard. I've already got ideas; see point 4.) 8. Markdown. A resolution: I'm not posting anywhere but on my own services. It's ride or die. See you on the other side.

Here's what the Internet does to human relationships: it washes away all the flavor and stretches the person beyond all credulity (turning them into a clown) then replaces sense and the savory with "flavors" simulated by blinding strobe lights and your eyes are forced wide open by governments and mega corporations who say "If you want the least service from us, you must bow and worship our feet." And so you do, like a slave. And everyone around you is desperate to turn themselves into a product. And everyone comes off the assembly line, option A ("Vote Trump!") or option B ("Vote Biden!") And you try to talk to someone, and they're all informants broadcasting your secrets.

If the Gemini Protocol has produced one thing, it's Lagrange. I've poked around a few other Gemini browsers, both graphical and text, but none compare. The Lagrange experience is on par with the top teir web browsers (minus all the hassle). Lagrange has a lot to teach us. And it's author has, in a way, the whole soul of Gemini in his hand. Where he moves, we move. Let me therefore make a proposal.

If I code a Reddit clone, will somebody host it?

Oh my god I've had it with the surface web. I am just so sick of the javascript infested mobile first world. I am so sick of dumbing everything down for the masses so some jerk can make a billion flipping the site. I am so sick of the fact that everything useful is now hidden behind 7 layers of advertising trackers. I am sick of the enthusiasm for Chat GPT as if it's not a 50 foot swell threatening us all individually with disaster if we don't join the AI collective. We are just about finished. I'm honestly suicidal thinking about it, thinking about how far I've been pushed into a corner, about how completely my social world has been cannibalized by these tech maniacs leaving me nothing.

How did you get into Gemini? Me, I stumbled upon the cheapskatesguide site for an unrelated reason and found his review of Gemini (https://cheapskatesguide.org/articles/gemini.html).

Should people post more polls?

I've read Gemini described as "read-only". I find it odd since the material here has to come from somewhere. What they mean is that you have to upload via ftp or ssh or titan. But that leaves Gemini hobbled. Imagine ftp, but you can only download. *What?* With a hack, we can upload 1000 bytes at a time via GET inside Gemini. It would seem a small step for human kind to make a Gemini uploader that broke up a text into 1000 byte blocks, then uploaded them to a server that could reassemble them. Then we wpi;dmneed ftp, ssh, or titan anymore. We can do everything in band from the same application. How much of a crime against gemini would this be, on a scale of 1 to 100?

Can anyone suggest a free capsule service? I tried to make one on... uh... I forget. And I got caught up in the process, unable to update my home page or successfully use Titan in Lagrange. So I gave up. Any pointers on a free gemini host that's working these days? Thanks.

To test Gemini I setup Agate, a Rustlang server. First I added a rule to my firewall, ufw: $ sudo allow from 127.0.0.1 to 127.0.0.1 port 1965 proto tcp Then I installed Agate: $ cargo install agate Then I made a folder, and made an 'index.gmi' inside it. I typed the following command: agate --content /path/to/content/agate_public \ --addr 127.0.0.1:1965 \ --hostname localhost \ --lang en-US I opened Lagrange to 'gemini://localhost' and the contents of 'index.gmi' appeared. To close agate, I ctrl-c'd into the terminal where it was running. THE END

I need info on two subjects. How to get a Gemini domain name. I don't want a clearnet domain name. I'm also afraid I have to talk to a human to get one. We need a no trust solution, like Tor onion addresses. Is there one? Can we get Gemini to work over Tor? It's fun to play naive culture hacker in quasi retro land here on Gemini, but the truth is we are mired in information war. Anonymity counts. Anybody know about Gemini+Tor? Thanks.
