I'm about 15-25% done with my new project. I've decided to call it Smallnet Information Services (SIS), and yes, it's inspired by IIS (Internet Information Services), which should hopefully give hints to what it actually is. I am trying to make this project very easy to setup like I did with my misfinserver project, which also means providing ways to transfer a pre-existing setup from other software to SIS.

More details coming soon! :D

@idx2 I think there was always talk of bringing back WAIS, but I don't remember anyone ever doing it. I could look into it.

So far, the planned protocols for SIS will be Gemini, Gopher, Misfin, and Nex. These act as fairly good replacements for IIS's HTTP and SMTP support. However, IIS also has FTP, and we currently don't have a smallnet replacement for that yet, so I'm considering whethre I want to include FTP into SIS or ... perhaps something else, something new...

I will look into WAIS, because it could be interesting. · 5 months ago
