back on gemini again ...
(preparing for a possible permacomputing future)
๐๏ธ
thinking of using a static site generator ... i like hugo but not sure (yet) if it puts out gemtext
any ideas for something to use for both http & gemini?
openbsd on pinebook would not boot (also mounting sd card more difficult than it needs to be) ... want to throw out pinebook
now considering just using old dell (running openbsd, just using a different account for personal computing)
computers (can) suck
actually successfully installed openbsd 7.3 on my pinebook pro (via eMMC) ... now it is usable (if slow-ish) and i feel good about using it (if a little tired from arduous installation)
manjaro always reminded me too much of having to fit into a "consumer" box ... it looks nice, but keeps wanting me to do things their way (without offering any noticeable benefits to my computing experience)
i have a bit more config to do (mount sd disk, various configs, ...) but its far more useful than it has been in years

working on a bot to spit out interesting (enough) text bits on a (slow) schedule:

i keep coming back to gemini as a good tech balance
local client handles display customization
gemtext readable by humans
text remains a viable communication media
reduce network traffic
something i'd like to see added would be to have some machine translation hooks built in to protocol/client in order to facilitate breaking down language silos

i will eventually update my profile pic but i must say i have a fondness for the alien
was checking out gemini://perma.computer and although a bit hyperbolic, the letter makes some good points. also, was impressed that it was only published via gemini & gopher (but that decision limits its reach).
i like the design of gemini, with all the heavy display lifting (such as it is) left to the client (and gemtext > html for hunans).
just added a new certificate to amfora so now i have multiple means to access, add to this log- so yeah! also, can now begin to read others at this station ...
this morning i played a single game of freecell for more than a half hour. time flew by as i unlocked the puzzle, requiring two restarts (of the same deal). i am happy to report that in the end, i did indeed solve the hand; leaving me with a curious feeling of victory (over myself, the ultimate puzzle).
dscovery (again)
