Sure, âsex is not a needâ in the sense that food and shelter are a âneedâ.
But in that sense, only considering the biological requirements for mere survival, _human connection_ is not a âneedâ.
There are raw biological needs, and there are _psychological_ needs.
Saying âsex is not a needâ has the same energy as queer-hostile people âacceptingâ queerness as long as it's not acted upon, because âyou don't _need_ to have a same-gender partnerâ.
Making assertions about whether a given person âneedsâ sex is not only inappropriate and invalidating of that person's experience of the world, it's the wrong issue.
Someone can genuinely have a _psychological_ need for sex â and that _doesn't_ imply that they're entitled to have that need met by anyone in general, or by someone else in particular. But they _are_ entitled to express that need _as_ a need, and to try to get that need met in a context of respect for bodily autonomy and informed consent.
