This is a gemlog for the SpellBinding puzzle, in which you construct words using the specified letters (each word must contain the anchor letter).
AMASS AMMO AMONG GAMMA GAMMON GNOMON GUNMAN MAGMA MAGNUM MAGUS MAMA MANGO MANNA MASON MASS MOAN MOMMA MONO MONOGAMOUS MONSOON MOON MOSS MUON SAMOSA SMOG SMUG SOMA SUMMA SUMMON SUMMONS SUMO
MONOGOMOUS was the pangram. Nice.
GNOMON is a special word to me. A gnomon is the pin that casts a shadow in a sundial, but that is not why. It is a very 'cute' word with a 'gnome' in it, and yet there is no GNU software package by that name. But that is also not why.
A couple of years ago my partner and I were working on the NYT Spelling Bee (the basis of this game) and GNOMON would have taken us to the genius level. Yet the game refused to accept it. I was furious - especially because some other, more obscure word was in fact accepted. I ranted so much that my partner said: "Why don't you write your own game then?".
MAGUS: magician, sorcerer. I really enjoyed reading 'The Magus' by Jown Fowles some years back.
MOMMA/MAMA occurs quite often. MONO - monophonic or mononucleosis.
MUON: an unstable lepton, common in cosmic radiation near earth's surface, mass ~207 times that of the electron, exists in positive and negative forms. Leptons, in case you forgot, are Fermions with spin 1/2 and experience no strong forces (electrons, MUONs and neutrinos). Fermions are... Well, it's turtles all the way down, sonny.
A SUMMA is a comprehensive scholarly treatise, or a summary of a subject. That seems odd, doesn't it.
SOMA is the drink of the gods. MANNA is the food from the gods. SAMOSAs come pretty close in my opinion.
Another day.
