There seems to be a lot of interesting people here at the pub. I figured we could get to know each other a little bit.
You can answer any of the questions below that you'd like, or add more of your own. This post is meant to be a bit of a springboard for discussion.
Favorite hobby - ham radio and hi-fi audio
I came to the pub from Gopherspace
Best life advice - make sure you maintain a good work/life balance - error on the side of life
I like this kind of thing!
What is your favorite hobby?
Currently, programming / messing around with my computer. It used to be mostly messing around, but I've gotten pretty serious with C lately.
How did you get into Gemini & the pub?
I found the link to the Midnight in an obscure imageboard. I've been aware about Gemini for around a couple of years or so (I think), but I've never really gotten to use it. I use the HTTP interface to the Pub still! That will eventually change, I hope.
What do you think is the most important question someone can ask themselves?
What is "me"? (That's the question)
Name 3 things people do that are pet peeves to you.
Too many... which is a sign that it's my problem, and not other people's.
What is your best life advice?
What others (implicitly) expect from you is on them, not on you.
What is the zaniest dream you've ever had?
I had to hunt some kind of monster in a tobacco field, and every time I saw feet with pink sandals behind a plant it attacked me, gripping me by the neck.
If the pub had a theme song or background music, what would it be?
"Duvet" by Boa, possibly the Dua Lipa remix.
Oh what a great idea!
What is your favorite hobby?
I love learning new things, I know it seems a bit basic but that's really the best thing in the world to me.
How did you get into Gemini & the pub?
I discovered Gemini via the Lemmy.ml's Gemini community and in a post ~tskaalgard talked about the pub. :)
What do you think is the most important question someone can ask themselves?
"If I were to die today, how would today be a good last day?"
I know that it might sound a bit depressive at first but I really think that it helps to put things in perspective and to appreciate the present moment.
Name 3 things people do that are pet peeves to you.
- Assuming other peoples' thoughts
- Not respecting personal boundaries
- Confusing free speech with being a jerk
What do you think is your greatest vice & greatest virtue?
My greatest vice is to avoid human interaction as much as possible.
My greatest virtue might be my sincerity towards others.
What is the zaniest dream you've ever had?
Living away from everything, without technology. Just being with my family, my animals near the beach. Growing my own food. No need of money.
If the pub had a theme song or background music, what would it be?
Hmmm... I'd say 'So What' by Miles Davis. A great classic :)
I like to talk about myself. I'll answer a few questions.
What is your favorite hobby?
Honestly, I can't choose one. I play video games, unicycle, solve Rubik's cubes, play chess, read about astronomy, snowboard...I'm not gonna be able to choose just one :)
How did you get into Gemini & the pub?
I found the site subreply.com from Hacker News, and on there ~m15o made a site linking the Pub. I'm one of the http holdouts, still haven't touched Gemini.
What do you think is the most important question someone can ask themselves?
"Am I happy?" (reading down I see ~tffb thinks along a similar line)
What is your best life advice?
It gets better. It always gets better.
Greatest vice and greatest virtue?
I guess I can somewhat answer both with one thing: I get bored too easily. It's hard for me to focus on things which I am bored with (and often must do). Conversely, when I'm working on something which I really enjoy, I can go off the deep end. Partially I think this is the reason why I have so many hobbies, too.
If the pub had a theme song or background music, what would it be?
Sandbox by Darren Korb comes to mind. It's the right attitude, but maybe a little too tropical ;)
This is a nice idea. ~tiernan, what are your answers?
What is your favorite hobby?
Making music but people pay a little sometimes now so it's not quite a hobby
How did you get into Gemini & the pub?
People started mentioning it on the disquiet experimental music community
Found the pub down a small alleyway
What do you think is the most important question someone can ask themselves?
What do I regret?
Name 3 things people do that are pet peeves to you.
Other white people who assume I'm gonna agree with their racism
People not wearing masks on the bus
People coming into the steam room when I'm in there: it's basically an incubator right now
What is your best life advice?
Don't listen to other people's advice (including this). Be patient and wait for your still small voice.
What do you think is your greatest vice & greatest virtue?
Coffee (although meta analyses show overwhelmingly positive long term health benefits, so not really a vice).
I try to be deeply understanding of others
What is the zaniest dream you've ever had?
Skeletons trying to run me over with a steam roller. Recurring nightmare thru adolescence.
If the pub had a theme song or background music, what would it be?
It would be midi generated in real time from the pub chatter run thru ambient synths and lots of reverb
I can't pass it up..
My favorite hobby is writing (I guess it is a hobby)
I got into the Pub via invite from m15o some months (a year or more?) back from Write.as
I think the most important question someone can ask themselves is "am I happy?"
3 things people do that pet peeves me: assume everyone is on the same page (when people are quite different), when people never question "the way it is", when people think just because THEY are cynical that everyone ELSE is
My best life advice is: it's never too late to start
My greatest vice (or biggest): smoking - greatest virtue: I don't get tired of doing the same thing over and over
The zaniest dream I ever had was when my friend jumped off a hayride and went off a pool diving board, then ran back and got back on the hayride - when I was laughing and looked at the other people on the hayride, no one had faces
If the pub had a theme song, it could be "Music" by John Miles
