I'm glad to be part of the one uncool Gemini site. I'm happy my posts don't appear on Antenna or Cosmos or any other aggregator until a busy body posts it there. I find it amusing that the people who complain about Bubble bringing a social media aesthetic to Gemini gobble up attention on the aggregators.
Bubble provides zero friction hosting for long-form content in Geminispace. Critics don't have to care about that because they are privileged enough to have a clearnet address without fear of getting doxed, or get invites to the cool pubnixes with the vegan sailboat hackers. Or they have an email address and can sign up on HTTP/S. Good for you. I'm here, putting my thumb on the scale for victory.

I don't think the "social media"-ness is the main complaint about BBS/Bubble. There are other social-media-esque sites in gemspace that you can interact with directly through a gemini browser, the same as Bubble.
When Bubble was first announced a lot of the complaints I saw around it had more to do with the author, less with the functionality of the site itself. The concern was (and is) that if the most popular platform _and_ most popular gemini client are both authored by the same person that leaves the protocol vulnerable to being extended.
Personally I find it pretty cool and impressive that my entire end-to-end experience has been handcrafted by a single person. But I also maintain my own capsule where I post most of my work, so the idea of having to abandon BBS when skyjake sells us out doesn't bother me much.

I think most of us are looking for _some_ social interaction and _some_ possible but not guaranteed exposure, just with saner expectations and healthier habits. If you don't want to be read, you should probably not publish anywhere, especially not in a central place like Bubble. That said, you seem to have opinions, which is a common trait amongst geminauts, so please feel at home! Worth noting is that there is a dedicated subspace here on Bubble for shitposts ;)
"Gobbling up attention on the aggregators" is a bit rude, no? Antenna at least has an option to filter out people you don't want to read. I make liberal use of it and highly recommend it.

@mediocregopher That was a complaint? That skyjake does both Bubble and Lagrange? That so dumb! Like, if they care that much, then they should get off their butts and make their own gemini browser or capsule. It's like they just expect everyone to cater to their every wish.
It's also like the definition of guilty until proven innocent. Skyjake hasn't extended the protocol *at all*, so these criticisms are just picking crap to be mad at. These people need to grow up.
I'm a programmer and I'm gonna make what I damn well please and think is needed within the confines of the current spec, and I expect every other programmer to do the same, otherwise what's the point of having gemini anyways.
If these people want to take the guilty until proven innocent approach so they always have someone to be mad at, then maybe they should just get off of Gemini, because every single person on Gemini has the capability to try to extend Gemini.
But they miss the point. Gemini was designed so that it could not be extended until someone designs an entirely new protocol. This fear-mongering is pointless to begin with. Nobody here would be on Gemini if they wanted to "sell out".
@LittlePrince Your first paragraph is decent, but the second paragraph is just rude and illogical. There are tons of free pubnixes out there that allow for free sign ups (like hashnix) without invitation, and there's nothing wrong with these.
I get that you're trying to fight some of the exclusiveness of some of the people here on Gemini (and there's a lot of people like that!), but by doing it in the way you're doing it, you're also criticizing the most inclusive of peoples, including the creator of Gemini himself (solderpunk) who ran one of these pubnixes (called Zaibatsu Circumlunar Space).
I enjoy Bubble. I know there are people with complaints about it, but I believe I've made the point previously in fact when I first joined. I addressed that if it were the purpose of anybody here to extend/extinguish the spec it would've -already- been that quite a while ago by now. Fact is, anyone that rolls through to this is already a web refugee, and I'm sure nobody else wants to step on anyone else's foot.
I know there are elitists, but they're everywhere, and it's no sense spending any mindpower on that. It's better spent enjoying the tech right at our fingertips, working with it, and doing something great and creative with it. :D
