TUI, Part 4

So, XMPP? Turns out `profanity` is just fine.

Profanity, a CLI XMPP client

If I've learned anything from this TUI adventure, it's how chubby modern Linux distributions have become. I knew bloat was a thing and would continue to be a thing, but only during this adventure did I put my distro on the scale. I trimmed my distribution down to what *should* have been a slim package set-- no GUI toolkits at all, btw. And `/usr` still clocked in at nearly 1.5GB. The dependency tree was nuts, for no good reason. I couldn't believe how many packages depended upon `bash` of all things.

So begins my next adventure. It's time to roll my own Linux distro OR go full SDF and install NetBSD. I rolled my own distro >20 years ago, and I've messed with NetBSD off and on over the years, but laziness and a day job have dampened my otherwise pedantic self.

I'm leaning towards Linux because I want to use some of my hardware's fancier features, and I doubt any of those bells and whistles made their way to *BSD. But I'll check before taking the plunge.

See you next time!
