We've been playing Yahtzee with the in-laws for well over three years, now: a pandemic activity that became just a standard weekly thing. Two more games today (two Ls for me), but a neat little surprise as well. During the pandemic, meetings for free accounts didn't have limits; then a limit of 40 minutes was added, forcing us to split things up and do two calls.
Now, today, another surprise: free accounts now have to wait ten minutes between meetings.
So we got around it by jumping between accounts and doing it that way, but whew, what a pain in the butt. And I get it, they want to convert some of the endless free accounts people are using, but it's a no from me. So I'm going to look at other options. Needs to be easy enough to be launched from a tablet by a couple of non-tech-saavy septuagenarians. Something for me to look into this week.
Took the dogs for a long walk, our younger one rushing into the pond to cool off and drink some pond water. Then out, until he saw the ducks swimming lazily by the shore, at which point he thought about going in again, but ultimately decided against it.
All this after putting in time on both my fiddle and guitar. Getting back into the rhythm of it before my lessons start in the fall. And now there's a flourless lemon cake baking in the oven. Having supper at our friends' place tonight. Bringing a half dozen cucumbers from the garden, too. The plants should be slowing down but there are still little cucumbers, the vines still covered with flowers.
Yesterday was slow and boozy, meeting up at a local brewery and pub, its windows full of flags: Ireland, England, Liverpool FC. I had an Irish red and a honeyed pilsner, and too quickly. winter, you're not in university anymore. But we sat around and enjoyed it, then came back to play board games with friends. Supper was chips and cheezies and, a little later, a peanut butter sandwich. Eating like a teenager, twenty years later. But who cares. The weather's good and the company's better. I don't have to always feel my age.
Plans to meet again early in the week, at a brewery close to some friends. They finangled some 2-for-1 coupons, and we've never been, so, that should be fun! I remember when we came here: the laws were still so strict regarding beer and the amounts produced that there was just two local breweries. Dozens of options, now, and good, too. And this feels like the time for it, summer winding down, the days starting to cool. May as well get a little tipsy while it's still comfortable. Fall comes here before its official start.
