Peace is a choice.
This is something that I've been reflecting on over the course of the last few months.
Years ago, I was generally very angry. Ready to argue, ready to fight to solve problems.
Life has a way of smoothing those rough edges. It's hard to burn at both ends all the time, as a candle, per se, if the time is more common than not that you just want to take a nap. I've watched those pieces of me chip and fall off bit by bit. I'm not quite there, and unsure if I'll ever be, but I do have a point to make.
I see so many people choosing anger. Anger over injustices, real or perceived, against them, or against others across the world they'll never meet. Anger over a world that churns forward, demanding your constant toil while a small cadre of Others recline on marble sun chairs and eat grapes. Anger over the fact that life is often cruel, unusual, and inconsistent to all of us.
I won't make an argument that their anger is foundless, though sometimes it might be.
I will make a case that there's a line drawn between those that seek to fan those flames in their own hearts or others, and those that choose to find the little pinpricks of light among the dark emotional velvet sky we're all sailing through.
Those who hold onto the gleaming white dots of hope, happiness, and intrinsic and irrefutable meaning that we can find in life tend to be the ones who weather storms without corroding away entirely.
I'm done burning.
I'm going to tend my little spot in the universe, and make it beautiful with what I have.
In your own way, I hope you find it in you to do the same.
