Gikopoi 2 is FLOSS (Libre) chat software. It's like IRC but with some twists. Visit in the Web. It uses Javascript to create rooms of characters. Like other 2ch-family sites, you can enter any name you want, or even use a tripcode. The primary server, gikopoipoi, is rather popular among Japanese users. Some strange people occupy the international server, but they are generally adverse to issue makers.
Adobe Flash died in January 2021 (expected for December 31, 2020.) A void in the "chatroom, but it's a spatial room" category of Libre software was created, then filled by someone's pet typescript project (in typical hacker fashion.) The new software, boldly titled "Gikopoi2", has many quality-of-life improvements.
While Gikopoi's primary audience is Japanese, due to a situation of issues, an international server was formed. The international server was began in 2005 to compliment the old "general" sever when it made a transition to be Japanese-only.
Running your own instance of gikopoi2 isn't hard. There's some advantages to this: you can have a meeting space or form of virtual reality for your friends and community. You can also create and load your own custom maps and characters into your instance of the game. Additionally, you can change the default loading room, and modify the number of available streaming slots for these rooms. There are a number of ways that the software could potentially be modified as to create interesting use cases. At least 2 anonymous communities are known to run their own private forks of gikopoi2 with interesting changes to the default source code.
