Welcome to my Gemini capsule!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The emphasis here will be on plain text, style and talk. I am particularly interested in the small internet as a focus for content over presentation. Not that presentation is irrelevant. But, I think the content of our conversation is primary. I am interested in the tools that the inventors of the Unix operating system developed to create and manipulate text.
As a reader, I wanted to become a writer to be able to join the great
conversation. That desire was evident in my life at a very young age. During the
cold winter nights in the Rocky Mountains, I spent my time reading encyclopedia
articles and children's tales from around the world. The 'local' TV station only
broadcasted for part of the day and the reception wasn't always good. We were
often more likely to listen to the radio. On the shortwave, we could listen to
programs from far away. I didn't have to speak the language to enjoy the music.
In time, I tried my hand at writing stories by longhand. This was an undertaking
that I kept from my family. I wasn't overly confident about my abilities and was
easily embarrased when I was younger. By the time I was in junior high, I was
considering a career in journalism.
Learning to type seemed to be a worthwhile investment. So, I signed up for two
semesters. Many of my friends suggested that I did so to meet girls. However, I
had bigger plans.
I'll recount what those plans were and how they continue to roll out in my gemlog entries.
