I might just participate in OFFLIFIRSOCH

I had no idea this challenge existed, or ROOPHLOCH for that matter. I live in a place where engaging in ROOPHLOCH (the Remote Outdoor Offrid Phlogging [gopher-logging] Challenge) is a difficult task, particularly because of the unpredictably wet weather.

So I might not participate, also because I don't even have a Gopher site.

But Solderpunk announced OFFLFIRSOCH, Offline First Software Challenge, the idea being to challenge not only yourself but our day-to-day use of the internet for tasks that clearly do not require it.

It's true we've become increasingly dependent on the internet for many tasks, up to and including checking our calendar, or asking Google to do calculus our computer could do itself.

There's two things I did recently that absolutely don't require the complexity of the internet. I tried imposing a PDF to a booklet online, because black-box tools (where you can't see what's under the hood) are much more accessible and available. And I added a CalDAV software to sync my calendar (up in an ethical and local cloud platform, but still someone else's computer), when i could have perfectly kept the info only on mine, as I don't usually use the calendar for anyone other than myself.

So those are two of the things I could tackle. The first would be pretty useful as I'm looking for a way to impose a PDF so as to make a small folded A6 pblication printed on two sides of an A4. I could do it in Scribus, but why bother when i could automate it and rig it to work with paged.js and give it to the world? I think it's a pretty convenient no-binding way to create minuscule pamphlets, for infoshops for example.

I might just create a small thing like that to avoid using the internet for a small task.

Peace to you, peace to the world, Free Gaza and Ukraine.
