I'd forgotten that lobste.rs runs a "post your battlestation pics" thread every year!
Lobsters Battlestations and Screenshots (2024)
Here's mine!
(My wife's system is visible on the right-hand side, hence the pixelated display.)
Details:
This is the first new desktop I've run since ... 2007? ... and the performance / price it offers is astounding. Now that I'm working 100% remotely, I don't regret switching away from a laptop *at all*.
The PineBuds Pro ANC and sound quality are average, but I love the Pine64 mission ("to get hardware into the hands of open source developers and tinkerers") so much that I'm happy to use them 🩷
The Sennheiser Presence is amazing - built-in mic noise cancelling that can make taking calls in a house full of chaos, or a busy city street, much more pleasant for the person on the other end 🎧
Bluetooth stability in Linux on the MSI PRO B650M-A motherboard isn't great, so I picked up a cheap Edimax Bluetooth dongle from Amazon. Works well.
I bought a box of these 3M wrist wrests on the cheap a few years ago, so will probably still be using this exact model for the rest of my career 🤣
While I love love *love* Unicomp keyboards, the Trackpoint on the EnduraPro is so bad as to be unusable (and is also now broken). They wouldn't even sell me one internationally unless I waived the warranty. Which is fine, because I have a modern strain gauge trackpoint and Teensy SBC in my workshop, awaiting fitment. That'll give it a modern laptop-style TrackPoint, and I can ditch the mouse for everything but (casual) gaming.
