Lockdown fitness
The Czech Republic is at the moment in the middle of the newest lockdown. It is strongly suggested to work from home, which is kind of difficult if you have more family members than separate rooms in your flat. Working from the bedroom can be challenging for your spinal cord. Or at least for mine it is.
Here is a list of things I do, to keep me in relative shape:
- yoga exercises - I am relatively lazy, so I mostly use it, when my back starts to ache, and yes I know that practicing daily would be much better strategy...
- rope flow - I have come across this technique on Instagram and ended up ordering two ropes from octomoves.com (in between I made the third one from anchor rope sold in Decathlon, but it does not roll the same - it is too elastic). It is a nice way to get your rusty back and shoulders into moving again, and it is also great outdoor activity (don't try to do rope tricks in a small flat stuffed with technology and crowded by 3 other people and 2 animals).
- fasting - I came across a book recommending fasting as weight loss method and prevention of type 2 diabetes and I have found out that it is less demanding not to eat at all then constantly worry about what to eat and how much (=how less) to eat. Currently, I fast Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday (~ 48 hours twice a week). With this I lose about one kilogram a week. Since Christmas, I am 12 kilos down (in 11 weeks). I think I have at least 10 more to go, so I guess I will have to stick with this regime till the end of June.
- cycling - I don't consider it much fitness activity, as I ride an electric bike (knee operation after trying to learn how to snowboard some years back). I used to ride 7 kilometers to work and 7 kilometers back for the non-freezing part of the last year. Nowadays, I sometimes go for a ride with my younger son - to explore Prague borders (we are not allowed to cross between the districts by our kind government).
- walking the dog - especially during the first days after Christmas with extra kilos to already significant overweight I used to go Nordic walking for about one hour with the dog on hands-free leash. Luckily our Shetland sheep dog is quite patient with my experiments and after a few minutes of the first walk we came to enjoying the coordinated movement.
I would like to add some more activities to the list - especially related to tending to and enjoying our small cottage situated on the river bank at the edge of the wood, but it is too cold for water sports, and we are not allowed to go there anyway (though 20 km by air, it is in different district). So I was just able to collect and cut some wood before the lockdown. But it is good to have something to look forward to...
