A south-west partial halo coronal mass ejection (CME) was observed in the LASCO/C2 imagery around 18:36 UTC on Feb 8th. The CME has no visible on disc signatures and is estimated to be back-sided. No impact on Earth is expected.

An impulsive X3.3 flare, start time 12:53 UTC, end time 13:31 UTC, peak time 13:14 UTC on Feb 9th, was produced from behind the south-east limb presumably by NOAA AR 3575. Strong radio burst and highly disturbed radio communications have been observed related to this flaring activity.

The greater than 10 MeV GOES 16 proton flux levels have exceeded a minor radiation storm threshold and continue to increase. Elevated proton flux levels with radiation storm are expected to persist throughout Feb 9th, possibly reaching moderate storm levels. The increased proton flux levels are related to the recent X3.3 flaring, peak time 13:14 UTC on Feb 9th produced by NOAA AR 3575 from about a day far behind the south-west limb. A related type IV radio burst, fast shock and strong coronal wave have accompanied the event. The associated coronal mass ejection is soon to be expected in the LASCO coronagraph imagery, but due to the source location far behind the west limb no impact in the solar wind and geomagnetic conditions at Earth are expected.
