Summer is coming to an end, and it's always a bit sad. I've had a month
of vacation that just ended, and the plan to stay in the woods as much
as possible has sort of fallen through. We did do some hiking and
sleeping in the woods, but not as much as originally planned. Oh well.
August has been cold and rainy this year. It feels almost like fall
started early this year.
I scrapped by car. It was time for the yearly check-up, and I realized
that there were too many things to fix, and too little money and use of
it, so I had it scrapped instead. Since I moved closer to the city
center last year, I've not been using the car that much anymore, and I
could not defend spending a lot of money on it. It was a 98, and it
feels like it had done it's job well. Maybe I'm getting a new one later
on, we'll see. For now, I'm trying to get by with my bicycle and public
transportation.
I've been trying to spend as little time as possible indoors in front of
the computer. It's been going so-so. I've apparently spent very little
time browsing gemini and updating this gemlog, that's for sure!
I also did a lot of reading this summer. Maybe more than usual. Perhaps
this is going hand in hand with the increased use of public
transportation, such as going by train instead of by car?
I also made a trip to the small town of Skinnskatteberg last week. I
didn't really have much in mind, other than that the hotel that is
housed inside the old railway station seemed nice, and that I needed to
get away for a few days. In that regard it was a success. The hotel was
nice, and pretty cheap. They also had a self-served breakfast, and
seemed to have been renovated pretty recently. Stable wifi and close to
the center of town. I spent most of the days there outside though.
There was a nice "Folkets park" located a short distance outside of
town. It was located near a lake, and had a pretty great view. Open to
the public too, which is not always the case with these places.
The church was also nice. I am not a religious man, but I can appreciate
a nicely kept church and churchyard anyway. The also have the mansion
nearby which offers quite a nice walk by the river and down towards the
lake south of town.
Other than that, Skinnskatteberg has only the sawmill and various
smaller businesses to offer. There is no proper restaurant, only
grill-places that serves pizza and sausages, or Asian-style buffets.
None of these options are really my cup of tea, but I didn't really
expect there to be much else either anyway.
Over all I had a good vacation, but I'm already looking forward to the
next one!
