We usually had the pecan + powdered sugar variety at Christmas when I was little.
There are several variations on this basic recipe:
Wedding Cookies: Make with chopped pecans. Roll in powdered sugar after baked and cooled.
Thumbprint Cookies: Depress ball with thumb and fill impression with jelly or jam of your choice.
Impression cookies: Press any of the following for variation into the ball: dried cherry, chocolate kiss, walnut half.
Chocolate Crinkle: Add cocoa to mix. Press with big spoon, after baking sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Plain: no nuts or anything else.
