I honestly don't think it's a technology issue, more a social one. IRC attracts IRC people. They're adept at having conversations. I feel like XMPP users are more socialised to idle. · 2 months ago
@gyaradong i definitely think IRC is easier to get started on, but it gets exponentially more complicated when you try to impose modern features on it by using a bouncer. IRC with a bouncer is like, +150% more complicated than XMPP on its own. but yeah id attribute the complexity of getting started on XMPP to the fact that clients tend to implement the various XMPP standards COMPLETELY differently from one another and that leads to friction unless everyone uses the same damn client. it feels kinda like email at times, where every client has to take into account what every other client might not have, and include functionality to mitigate that friction · 2 months ago
lol same. much easier to connect in IRC · 2 months ago
@istvan oh, ive been seeking people out on melonland forums since there are quite a few people there who use jabber. ive also been getting some friends who like retro stuff to make accounts! · 2 months ago

@istvan, maybe just start from people from those two rooms? · 2 months ago
Any advice on making connections? I set up a server months ago but have zero contacts. Just hang out in two rooms. · 2 months ago
