A week ish since I deleted Reddit (or rather Apollo). Only now realising how unhealthy it was for me. Anyone have any neat RSS feeds?

@virtueisdead The Guardian includes full articles in their feeds. Local syncing with cron solves the history problem, so RSS works for me as a news vector. Thanks for the link · 2 months ago

@tm85 hahahaha arent notifications like the primary thing that RSS is used for besides reading news? honestly i find it kind of a hassle for news personally since it doesnt usually go back very far and kinda inherently implies you go to the website in question to read the article, but its super useful for notifications. also, on the music notifs subject, if you keep a personal music library and hate bs like streaming services, it can kinda be a huge pain to keep up with bands/artists; i made a whole post explaining how i actually set it up if you wanna do the same: https://cohost.org/virtueisdead/post/3454480-div-style-backgrou · 2 months ago

@virtueisdead Wow, thanks a ton! Will be checking those out.\nI like the concept of using RSS for notifications. I'll definitely be investigating that further. · 2 months ago

well a lot of the news-oriented feeds im subscribed too are awfully particular, but i do recommend crimew's blog which is usually just about hacker stuff and invasie tech, one terabyte of a kilobyte age which is a blog about searching through an archive of the entirety of the original geocities, strong towns which is about civil engineering and urbanist redevelopment news, and dhole moments which is about furries cryptography and tech industry work in general. the other thing i use rss for is rss bridge feeds to bandcamp and apple music which i use to get notifications when my favorite bands release new music! its shockingly efficient. · 2 months ago

Deleted my two 12 year old Reddit accounts right before the blackouts. Found Tildes then this place. I find Waffle to be pretty much all I need for news. · 7 months ago

I had to delete Apollo also... Did not install the Reddit app yet. Thinking about deleting my account altogether.... So yeah, I feel you!. I like the news agreggators on Gemini and Gopher a lot: Geminews, Antenna, Taz.de, BBC news, The Guardian · 7 months ago

Check if you have any local news websites put into google (your location) news. Youtube subscriptions can be imported to rss readers (and subreddits but thats kind of against the point), I recommend checking out Acidus's newswaffle too try plugging in some of your favorite news sites there it tends to work great. · 7 months ago

I quite like Xkcd and APOD. There's also an RSS feed on my blog, and an ATOM feed on my gemlog. · 7 months ago

I could scroll my feed for 5 hours and accomplish nothing, whereas yesterday I apent half an hour to clean my desk, which has substantially improved how I feel when using my computer. I feel like I've torched large portions of time that could have been applied constructively, or at least in a way that made me feel good · 7 months ago
