s/Geminispace

Everything meta about the Geminispace, which doesn't fit into s/Gemini, because it's not related to the protocol or Gemtext, and also doesn't fit the more specialized subspaces. E.g. announcements, shutdown notices, random info, even idle chatter.

About Gopher and Gemini Content — Is there any high quality content in the Gopher space that is not mirrored in the Gemini space? "High quality" is of course subjective, but anything that would soon appear on the common aggregators (Antenna, Cosmos etc.) or on the forums (BBS, Station etc.) and that would either entince debate or be seen as a reference by many would do. I ask this because I fail to get friendly with Gopher. Again it's subjective, but I really miss encryption, reflowing and the...

Sourcehut is suffering a DDoS — Sourcehut is currently down due to a DDoS. They host some gemini capsules in there so some of you may be affected, I know I am. Details in [https link]

Add search to your capsule with just a single link — 🎯 Kennedy Site Search adds search, just for your capsule, all from a single link line!

New "Certificate and Key Validator" service to Kennedy — I added a "Certificate and Key Validator" service to Kennedy. This helps you figure out if a certificate/key change on a capsule is from a innocent change by the capsule owner, or a possible MITM attempt. Read me here: [gemini link] If I ever build a Gemin client, I would probably build something like this into it. (with a perference to disable). As in, if you access a capsule and it's cert/key is different, my client would check with...

openid in geminispace i was saying that there is no need in social networks since internet is a social network. we have sites, the updates is possibre to fetch anonymously via rss. but if we wanted to comment with our identity, then openid was the way. so rss+openid solves almost all what we use activity pub for (i was gonna write except private messages, but even private can be done). if we adopt something like openid or openid in geminispace, i think that will cover most of our needs....

Station BBS looks broken — [gemini link] - I want to register there, I have succeed creating a user certificate, sucessfully entered my nickname. And then I stuck, only option available for me now is the button called "Join station", which is strange, i have already joined. What should I do next? Is it normal behavior for Station BBS? Can I contact Station admin for assistance?

Infinite Scrolling and hyper personalization are evil — I miss the old BBS and forums long gone the few that exist are like ghost town. Once in a blue moon I go back and I remember vividly certain topics or obscure knowledge bits. The ability to navigate and map the information with section, broken down into topics and comments. The main page was the same for everybody and everybody knew what the other would get. Those are two things missing from the modern web. Both infinite scrolling and...

Whatever happened to Konpeito? — I was looking around the corners of Geminispace that I used to frequent, when I discovered that the Konpeito site is down, and seemingly has been for a while. A few people are hosting backup mirrors, but I'm interested to know what happened behind the scenes, if anyone knows anything. Mainly, I'm wondering why the project ended, and if there's any sort of alternative, sister project, or successor!

It's sad that Gemini is so small, but i think a slow growth is better than the boom that happened when DistroTube a nd a bunch of YouTubers made videos about it. A lot of people joined but then left afterwards. I did discover Gemini through them thought.

Google's Gemini AI — What do you all think of this? Does this naming choice have the potential to hurt the Gemini protocol? Or do you not care?

building the graph of Gemini — Has anyone ever tried to graph the geminispace? I know there are a bunch of crawlers, but I can't find anything related to building a graph to visualize how geminispace is structured, what clusters it has, etc. I think it could be a good tool to explore new communities that you haven't seen yet, by traversing the graph.

My capsule mess I have a two years old capsule, more or less, anything the thing is that I started adding posts "just to try Gemini" so with no concerns for any file structure. Now it seems that I'm settled with chronological folder structure where my gemlog posts are in year/month/ But what do I do with my old posts? My guess is that I should move them to integrate them in the new structure, and add redirections to reflect their new locations... but that's something I've never done "by hand",...

Nice work @Acidus. 👏 Since you are displaying the email contents as preformatted text, it may not (should not, IMHO) be wrapped by clients to fit on the screen, though. Any chance you can wrap the long single-line paragraphs to a shorter max width? Of course, on mobile devices, preformatted text is not great but I can understand why you'd choose to use it here.

Would Gemini survive an attack by the mainstream commercial users out there? I keep wondering...i mean its wonderful that there's this great community of folks and a bunch of pretty useful advice and articles....but what happens when mainstream media and similar folks decide to move in? At the very least i'd imagine that they'd start posting click-baity attention grabbing articles....and overrun places like this - bbs....with their content. Are there any plans in place to prevent stuff like...

PageRank — Is there any search engine in the Gemini space that implements the Page Rank algorithm as in Brin, Page, "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine" (1998), or something similar? The Gemini space appears not to contain manipulated content ("SEO"), so PR could work pretty well.

Gemini Space Demographics — Is there any data available about the Gemini Space demographics? Does this space appeal to the grey beards? Does it appeal to the youth, as an addition to the unsocial media apps? Who came, and moved on? Who stayed? I add a coarse poll on age, if you would like to take part.

How to discuss a lengthy article from http land on gemspace? — I came across a fascinating (to me, anyway) article and wanted to share it here on gemspace for discussion. The only options I could think of were: 1. Just link to http (boo!) 2. Link to Newswaffle, if it works for this article and that’s allowed here. 3. Copy and paste the article The only one that seems right to me (it it works) is Newswaffle but I’m interested in opinions (esp. moderator / admin ones). Thoughts?

Which search service do you recommend in Gemini space? — I’m currently using [gemini link] as my default in Lagrange. At the moment - and this could just be the nature of the contents of Gemini space currently - I get a lot of results for a library flooding my results. The results contain the terms I searched for, but that domain won’t have what I want. What are the alternatives and is there much difference anyway? Please let me know your preference.

— makeworld: Bye, Gemini

Thank you makeworld for your contributions to Geminispace! One benefit of having a protocol whose specification is not intended to change is that the current software can live on in maintenance mode, perhaps indefinitely. With any luck, Amfora today is just as good to browse Gemini with as it will be in the years to come.

CIA World Factbook — I am working on converting the CIA World Factbook to gemtext. It is coming along pretty well, the original web version does not really use much more than three levels of headers anyway.
