snow — We just had 70cm+ of snow dumped on us over the course of the weekend; I went out in it once an hour for 33 hours total, three shifts, because work. I feel like absolute ass. But elsewhere in the province got pasted with over a metre so I really shouldn't complain /that/ much, even if I did slip on the way home this morning >.>;;

A Book On Cavitation — When I was around ten, I became obsessed with a book called "Cavitation". It was a very dry, scientific book, with in-depth information on the subject, which involves tiny bubbles which form and collapse around things like boat propellers, causing damage. I don't know why I was attracted to that book so much, but I think I was interested in ultrasound, and there was some overlap with cavitation. It was a collection of studies and observations, complete with a bunch of...
Well, I started studying Korean again a bit. I took about an unintentional month and a half break, but I'm starting back up again. I had been intending to anyway, but started working on trying to make some games in Phaser.js. Now I hear about the Workcation for digital nomads visa that Korea is now piloting and of course my brain wants to take it as a sign that I should go back and give it another shot. But I think one of my problems is having put languages before connection with people,...

In my hands is a signed copy of Halo 3. Looking up, Bill Gates is smiling at me. Everybody at Best Buy is smiling. I take off my Apple Vision. I am back in the retirement home. Nobody has visited me for 12 years. I put it back on. I hold Halo 3. Everybody in Best Buy is smiling

jsreed5.org was down for several hours last night. A problem in the underlying EC2 instance caused it to become unreachable, and I didn't notice the issue until I woke up today. It has now been resolved and my capsule is available again. I apologize for the inonvenience!

Train Called In Sick — We regret to inform passengers that the AI train operator has had to call in sick due to a virus. We remind passengers that our AI operators receive up to ten sick days by law each year, and to plan backup routes accordingly.

Gemini capsule with basic server (Agate) but managed with scripts — Amazed about how much I've learned by managing my Gemini capsule with bash scripts which I can run from a SSH connection. Today, I made improvements to the comments mechanism, yes you can get comments with Agate server.

Announcing the Skylab Misfin Client — Over the past week and a half I've been simultaneously learning Go and writing a new Misfin client with a gemini frontend. Skylab is named after the first space station launched and operated by NASA, which was one of the space programs MSFN was built to support. Skylab has most of the features which you might expect: Keeps trag of read/unread, archived mail, trashed mail, etc Allows you to draft and send mail...

Flossing Teeth Considered Harmful? — I am not 100% convinced yet, but I think flossing teeth can cause more damage than good. While every dental heath professional will tell you to floss, if you think about it, there are problems. Getting rid of remaining food and bacterial accumulations forming on sugary residues on your teeth is a good thing. However, driving it around with a piece of string can just as easily shove it deeper under the gum and make matters worse. If you have an infected...

One-line ncat Gemini server ncat --ssl -l -k -p 1965 -c "/usr/bin/echo -e \"20 text/gemini\r\nhi\r\n\"" [`] Then go to [gemini link] to view. It should display "hi". If you would like to create a certificate for your server instead of having it generate a new one every time (and thus get security warnings every time) you can do the following: 1) Create a certificate in Lagrange called localhost (or whatever the name of your server is.) 2) Click on it and choose "Show in File Manager". 3)...

Nuevo cuento en mi Cementerio de libros olvidados — La mayoría de lecturas que comparto ahí son entre cortas y medianas, esta es cortita. Espero que alguien se anime a leerla y dejar alguna impresión.

What are some lesser-known, lesser-discussed political positions you either support or oppose? For example, I don't support mandatory minimum sentencing laws, and I believe companies should not be allowed to require arbitration clauses (only optional).

Does Cosmos handle a 31 permanent redirect of previous gemtext feed links that aggregated before? I updated my capsule to status 31 redirect from an ambiguous path to the specific file it's serving in an attempt to make my paths less ambiguous to help with offline support. My page [gemini link] now 31 redirects to [gemini link] and doesn't seem to aggregate into Cosmos anymore. It's fine and not the end of the world by any means if that means it won't be aggregated into Cosmos anymore, but...
