About Gopher and Gemini Content

Is there any high quality content in the Gopher space that is not mirrored in the Gemini space? "High quality" is of course subjective, but anything that would soon appear on the common aggregators (Antenna, Cosmos etc.) or on the forums (BBS, Station etc.) and that would either entince debate or be seen as a reference by many would do.

I ask this because I fail to get friendly with Gopher. Again it's subjective, but I really miss encryption, reflowing and the minimum of text formatting that makes Gemini capsules beautiful when seen through Lagrange.

After discovering Gemini, gopher was done for me. It’s very similar to gopher but much more modern and private with built-in always on encryption.

Gopher is much harder to deal with, with weird indendation, tab based layouts etc. It’s a product of its time. I think gemini nicely replaces it.

@ElectricalDance There are still a lot of Gopher holes with useful information and it still has its entitlement. It's an essential part of the smolnet just like gemini.

I really endorse all those old technologies (and gemini of course) in contrast to the corporate surveillance web. In fact I just set up my own gopher server just a few days ago besides finger, gemini and the www on my server. All those protocols are still useful and at (at least to me) a lot of fun.

As a text interface/commandline user I was pleasently surprised that there is a TUI version of Lagrange called clagrange, which supports all these protocols. I can only recommend browsers like Lagrange/clagrange. They brought me to the idea to set up all these services.

@fab I fail to find any of those good gopherholes. Could you please give me some examples, and maybe point me to other sources like an aggregator, search engine etc.? Thanky.

@karel You should check out at least:

— Bongusta! aggregator

— nytpu's comitium also has Gopher feeds

You can do a bit of research yourself by using Gopherspace searchengines:

— quarry Gopherspace Searchengine

— floodgap Veronica-2 Searchengine

Where can I download Windows binaries for clagrange?

🚀 skyjake [...] · Feb 01 at 08:16:

@zorg I'm not distributing clagrange binaries at the moment. On Windows TUI apps also have peculiarities that will need some extra work in the future.
