I appreciate hearing your perspective on personal safety in the various places you've lived. I guess it's a cynical part of me, but when I hear folks ask questions like that I have to wonder whether they're trying to prove a point in a reactionary/xenophobic kind of way. I respect you for assuming good faith and giving your honest opinion on the matter.
My grandparents had a collection of the Pee-wee's Playhouse show on VHS that I'd watch sometimes as a child. Despite having been born in the 90s, it occupies a strange and special place in my early memory. It's sad to hear that Reubens has passed. I can sense the impact of his brand of comedy in some other absurdist humor that I grew up with (HomestarRunner comes to mind).
