This is the hardware hack for the EX/HX. I haven't tried it 'cause "Next week I'm buying another computer". (See date of EchoMail post) From: Cas Per To: All Msg #20, 10-Dec-89 10:47pm Subject: Adding a hard drive to an EX/HX Well I dont remember exactly WHO wanted this so I hope this person gets this message... Here is a list of what you need to make a standard IBM card edge expansion slot (for a hard drive, etc) 1> Desc : PLUS Expansion Adaptor Part #: 25-1016 Price : $14.95 Where : Radio Shack 2> Desc : 62 Pin Female card edge connector (PC/XT Bus connector) Part #: 276-1453 (New for '89) Price : $2.95 Where : Radio Shack 3> Desc : 62 Pin Female Header from PLUS Card (AJ-7114-connector #) Part #: 25-1031 Price : $8.03 Where : Radio Shack National Parts First off remove the pins from #1 (PLUS card). Then solder the edge connector (#2) to the HOLES of the pins that you removed on #1. You will have to bend the pins a little to make them fit. Get them as far inside the holes as possible but for the most part the solder should run into them and hold well. Next cut the gold edge fingers of #1 (the easiest way is to put it on a sanding wheel and it will grind them down quickly without messing them up) leaving about 1/8 inch of the gold left over. Then solder the female pin connector (#3) to the gold fingers on the PLUS card. Next thing to do is to either cut or grind the PLUS card down to the edges of the white lines that surround the female pin connector. Finally check the connector for shorts (a continuity check works fine. Check one and the next one ahead and make sure only the selected one has a complete circuit) that's about it....cep't make sure the card is plugged in correctly (hehe).... --- QM v1.00 * Origin: The Cracker Box BBS (1:130/39.0)
