Discovering Old Notes

2022-01-28

---

I've been considering switching away from Zim and back to Joplin for my not-taking needs. I appreciate that it uses full Markdown instead of Zim's format, and it has many layout and linking features that Zim lacks.

To that end, I installed Joplin on one of my Linux computers this morning. I had put Joplin on this particular machine before, but I had removed it about two years ago. It turned out that simply removing the program did not remove the internal data, so when I opened Joplin again, I found my extensive collection of notes, untouched for over twenty-four months.

I was quite elated about the discovery. Some of these notes had been mirrored elsewhere, only for the mirror to be lost. Other notes are still available to me, but have had extensive updates since 2019 and now hardly resemble their original forms.

Time to do some more digging into my own past.
