A modern day alternative to the current WWW already exists: just disable
JavaScript on your web browser and you get exactly that. Just consider
web pages that work in that state "the alternative web", and pages that
don't work in that state "the bloated web".
Ain't no need of a new protocol to get that "alternative WWW".

I disagree. I did what you propose here (with LibreJS, so it's not even

the most radical solution), the navigation on the WWW with a actual

Javascript disabler is painful. Most sites break, and even if one site

works, it will link to other sites that will break. It's very

frustrating, thus instead of being a relaxed navigation, it's more

stressing than normal WWW.

That's why it's useful to have a protocol. When I'm on Gemini I know

that all links are going to work. When a link goes to the WWW, it's

clear and I can choose not to click on it. I can truly enjoy a

non-bloated web.

But if that's not what you're looking for that's okay. Use Gopher or

Spartan, but let us enjoy Gemini as it is.
