Red Rising Book Review (by Alex White)
I LOVE the Red Rising series, and I'm glad that someone has brought it up here. I'm not sure if the OP will read this post but I highly encourage going through the entire series because it gets intense. I lost a lot of sleep staying up reading this book series and couldn't wait for the next ones to drop.
I found this book after finishing the Silo series by Hugh Howey.
I think I read these book series in tandem, and I loved both for different reasons. When I read Silo I knew eventually that it would get picked up for a movie or television series since the book seems to be written that way. I feel much the same about the Red Rising series - it's so action packed that I can't imagine someone not optioning this for a movie series. If they can make blue people in Avatar, they can certainly make all the skin colors in this series.
Red Rising quickly diverts from the story of life underground though, and becomes an intersteller adventure. I'll admit, I found the start of the novel a bit slow, surprisingly the parts underground were my least favorite. But the story on the surface was quite exciting.
I agree, it does start off slow, but once you get into the next book it starts picking up. I do like how it had a bit of a Hunger Games feel to it, and show the maturation and molding of these young warriors.
...there's a really deep lore and wider universe that I love and some truly intense moments. Character development is excellent, and despite a slow start, the book really hooks you.
Completely agree. The universe gets much bigger.
