Israel–Hamas war (ongoing)

An armed conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups has been taking place chiefly in and around the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023. On that day, Palestinian militant groups launched a surprise attack on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, starting the most significant military escalation in the region, 50 years after the Yom Kippur War. After clearing Hamas militants from its territory, the Israeli military embarked on an extensive aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip followed by a large-scale ground invasion beginning on 27 October. Clashes have also occurred in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and with Hezbollah along the Israel–Lebanon border. The hostilities constitute the fifth war of the Gaza–Israel conflict since 2008, part of the broader Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

Myanmar civil war (ongoing)

The Myanmar civil war, also called the Myanmar Spring Revolution and the People's Defensive War, is an ongoing civil war following Myanmar's long-running insurgencies, which escalated significantly in response to the 2021 military coup d'état and the subsequent violent crackdown on anti-coup protests. As of January 2024, recent losses have meant the surrender of thousands of soldiers, including six generals and thousands who have surrendered without a fight. However, others warn that coup forces remain "formidable and well-equipped", with "external allies and economic resources".

Red Sea crisis (ongoing)

The Red Sea crisis, also referred to as the United States–Iran proxy war, is an ongoing military standoff that began on 19 October 2023, when the Iran-backed Houthi movement within Yemen launched a barrage of missiles and armed drones at Israel. Operating against Yemen's internationally recognized government, the Houthi movement's militants have controlled a considerable swath of the country's coastal territory along the Red Sea since 2014, and have used these grounds as a staging point for multiple hostile seizures of civilian-operated cargo ships sailing near the Yemeni coast. The Houthis have claimed any Israel-linked shipping as a target, although multiple vessels with no apparent link to Israel have also been attacked.

Russian invasion of Ukraine (ongoing)

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in an escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War that started in 2014. The invasion became the largest attack on a European country since World War II. It is estimated to have caused tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilian casualties and hundreds of thousands of military casualties. By June 2022, Russian troops occupied about 20% of Ukrainian territory. About 8 million Ukrainians had been internally displaced and more than 8.2 million had fled the country by April 2023, creating Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. Extensive environmental damage caused by the war, widely described as an ecocide, contributed to food crises worldwide.
