I've encountered some problems lately. My home network, being 192.168.1.0/24 like everyone else's, meant that I couldn't use wireguard someone else's house, since their network would be in the same IP space. My friend has also encountered this, being unable to connect back to his desktop from his parents' house, since both their networks are 192.168.0.0/24.
The easiest workaround is just to re-IP the network. For most people this is totally fine - nothing changes since everything's using DHCP. I use DHCP too, but I use DHCP lease reservations for my servers, and custom DNS entries. And since I now use Mikrotik networking gear, and have a router and an AP, this just gets more complicated. For me, a re-IP of the network meant a half-hour sit-down to figure out all the places I needed to change a 1 to another number.
I did the same thing at my parents' house, going from 1 to 10, and this was fine for most things, except for the ridiculous and fragile home theater system. That reacted poorly, and we had to call the contractors since my dad doesn't have access to some of the devices on his own home network. Crazy.
Fortunately, no such issues here - I just swapped some numbers from within Winbox and clicked apply really fast, rebooted both boxes, and I'm back in business. It was surprisingly easy. But since these are "professional" things, it was a bunch of places to go and change the IP scheme - DHCP lease pools, router addresses, default routes on the AP, etc. Winbox being the rescue anchor really helps, just in case I lock myself out (which I did, once, on the second go-round). First, I re-IP'd to 192.168.8.0/24, but then I realized right after I did it that my GL.Inet routers default to that same address space, so I had to re-IP my routers again.
All in all I'm glad to have a somewhat unique IP space at my home network, to fix an issue I have very infrequently. But it does happen! Now I know I can re-IP my friend's network without many consequences. Glad I was able to test on myself first. And because of Winbox, and my increased skill with networking, I was able to get myself out of a few situations I wouldn't have been brave enough to try a year ago. Progress!
