I don't like where we (humans) are right now. Although arguably much better then we are in the past. 1. AI is getting good fast, without sight of diminishing returns. 2. Carbon emissions is still not going down (though slowing). I don't want to sound alaramist. But I feel this is the current 2 major risks the entire human species face. And I am young enough that I might see the consequences unfolding. It's difficult to focuse on your life when there's literal life or death issues going around. Just venting.

I feel like alcholism is my not-so-healthy solution to building new crazy software. The "fuck it, let's try anyways" booze make you feel is difficult to replace. I need a more healthy alternative.

Is is just me or most good news comes out of the EU. Actual good climate laws, forcing USB-C, GDPR and now attempt to regulate AI.

It feels very depressing with people ignoring the very real affect of climate change and warming - I want a good, solid winter!! The woset part is, I can fix this no matter how much money or solar panal I personally throw at the problem. The real visible different I need to add Gigawatts of solar. Which is completely our of any ordinary person't capablity. Just need to vent.

Anyone knows a good and easy to user IRC bouncer? I want something that is just set and go.. A lot of perople suggests ZNC online. But I hate the fact that I have to join channels using the web UI.

I never have thought I've to learn anatomey twice in my life. First when I was too bored and watched the entire lecture for med students. Now becaused I learned Blender and I want to make human models. Somehow both "anatomy" have nothing in common besides the name of body parts.

Taking a notebook to a bar has to be the most productive thing I've done ever. The "fuck it" mentally makes me think out of the box.

Please convince me: AI art creation has been in a bad light due to not respecting artists. But artists already agreed people could download their work and decode it. People could already learn from art. So why is AI learning from art so cnoterversial? My basis is that humans are not holy or magic. We are just wet computers at the very bottom. (From a scientific view). I want to be on the side of artists. But I don't see any reasonable, logical mechanism in which artists can be protected while keeping the line between humans and AI seprate. Since humans and AI both learn. And potentially through the same prrocess (will cite later). There's no difference right? I think I'm in crysis.

Ohy, who's crawler is abusing TLGS? I'm getting constant requests hitting the search API. It's not a big problem due to the low volume. And sicne I log nothing I don't know who is doint it. But you are generating a lot of errors. ,

What's the management style at your workplace? I became a team lead and have kept the "you can do whatever you want, whenever as long as everyone agrees beforehand and benefits the company" style. It works. Everyone finished their work efficiently and delivers good product by all technical standarda. Even picking up tasks that others haven't got to yet. The bottleneck now is really my speed of finding new directions of improvement. Yet somehow other departments complains that we too lax and lazy. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry, TLGS is experiencing some PostgreSQL issues in the past few weeks. Seems to be cause by the Groonga extension I'm using to support CJK. I'm goingto remove it.

I likely need to find a new job soon. Dang. Well.. the reality of working at a startup. I don't know if my next job will also be in a startup. It's exciting and etc.. But also very tiring as everything is changing constatnly.

SQL is acting weird after table changes. Took my search engine down for a little while. But now there's a list of ALL self-pointing gemsub feeds on Gemini! Next step is to build a super-duper aggregator that listens to Atom and Gemsub! gemini://tlgs.one/doc/api

I just realized for certain brokers making a Gemini frontend isn't that hard. The question is should we..

Unpopular opinion/something I don't understand. The entire infosec and broder security industries are victim blaming. The entire point is to avoid even possible to getting hacked. "Don't take nudes (and share) if you don't intend them getting spread" is valid adivce to reduce attack vector. It's like saying. "Don't take photos of drugs if you don't want FBI knocking your door." It's just good OpSec. And no one protect the drug heads. We shouldn't mock victims afterwards. But we should teach OpSec and 1st principles. And teach people to take responsiblity. No amount of defence after can remove the harm done. And the no-blaming movement is hindering exactly it,

I have enough of economists predicting 50 of the last 2 crashes. It's just fear mongering at this point. Inflacttion is bad. Really bad. But not killing 80% of the market in 2 months levels of bad.

Something I haven't shared about Gemini. It's only on Gemini we see high concentrations of people writing blogs (aka. gemlog) and not caring to know how many people react/visit to them.

I'm curious. Is there other community on Gemini besides Station and Geddit? Like other active messaging boards, discussions. etc..

I just got my company an EV Certificate (to comply with regulations). Wow the varifcation process is so simple and stupid. I can believe all the story about social engineering and phishing now. It's sad. Sad how easy to fool a CA and get the highest level of certificate.

I'm back! Apprantly Gemini has grown so much that my search engine needs higher SQL timeouts. Wow... I need to rearchicturing stuff.

My country is trying to combat fake news with censorship law again. It's frustating to see how broken the law is. Fortunatelly almost everyone and service providers are pushing back. Just want to call for some awarensee. gemini://gemini.clehaxze.tw/gemlog/2022/08-19-taiwans-digital-intermediary-law-is-more-than-stupid.gmi

Any suggested Rust Gemini library (not server)? I might have to move some of my services from C++ to Rust due to package avaliablity and me not wanting to intrface with C directly.

Thanks to @krixano 's post on search engines. I found -motivation to finish my old post too! gemini://gemini.clehaxze.tw/gemlog/2022/07-22-search-engine-dilemma-bias-vs-accuracy.gmi I want more conversation about the topic. What kinds of search engine do we (as a community) want. There are tradeoffs that we make. But who's to juded the tradeoffs?

Any recommendation for a Gemni reverse proxy? I want to host multiple services on the same IP. But too lazy to build my own.

Wow! Cyber attacks on Gemini is now a thing!! Just saw SQL injections attempts in TLGS's log this morning (I log system errors). I totally welcome people attacking the service with good will, trying to find vulns and report. Hopefully this is that. If not, good luck pwning it, enjoy the near-OpenBSD level of paranoia protections. Dedicated user, unveil(), hardened malloc, etc...

Today I learned. Sending money overseas to my US broker is faster with crypto than the local currency. This takes 2~3 days: fiat in account- bank - internation wire trsnasfer - broker - fund clearing While this takes less then a day: fiat in account - crypto exchange - USDT/USDC/ETH - broker (no fund clearing step) Wow the speed of banks amazes me
