The ability to ask stupid questions is a superpower. Not many people possess it, because not many people are willing to admit that they do not know something, especially something that they "ought" to know. (I'm focusing on work environments, I should mention.)
It takes a lot of humility to ask a stupid question, to admit your ignorance. It also takes bravery, to put yourself out there as being ignorant. The reason why it's still a Good Thing to do is that it shows you care more about the subject you are asking about than your own image.
The kicker, though, is that most of the time, everyone else has the same question you do, and they are just too afraid to ask. Oftentimes, if such a question goes unasked, then the outcome isn't as high quality.
They say you should always be learning. If that's true, then you should ask about what you don't know, whatever it is. Then you improve, and do better.
