A short log of all the stuff I have done on the radio.
I was able to get my new Allstar node on EchoLink and logged into the Friday Night Tech Net / Flying Pigs Net. Built a SHARI Node kit a week ago, works well. Now I've got local connections to Allstar, EchoLink, DMR (BM, TGIF, DMR+, SystemX), and System Fusion.
Sunday night I have quiet a few nets. Local RF, EchoLink and DMR. Though I've been pretty active in DMR lately so I have been hitting up a few nets a night if I'm free.
I decided that 2023 would be the year I was able to Head Copy 15-20 wpm in CW. So I'm trying to do no Voice or Digital Modes on HF, at least not for the next few months. Maybe if no one is on but that is almost never the case with CW.
Not really radio work but I just setup this gemini capsule as its own site. Now available via gemini://ad0qm.com
And I've been working a lot of DMR as I haven't had a lot of time at night to play HF.
YouTube's algorithm decided my next mode would be VARA HF. So I bought the license and got the rig out and I've made half a dozen long rag chew QSOs. Something I haven't done in over a year. Playing radio only when everyone is asleep usually means no voice modes. I'm slow at CW, especially when the bands are noisy. So digital modes it is. And apparently everyone has dropped PSK and other digital modes for FT-8. Glad to find something new people are using.
Did a little bit of CQ WW DX...like 3 QSOs little. Haven't really done much SSB in a while since most of my operation is done at night when the family is sleeping.
I did try out a new digital mode, VARA HF. It worked well but was definitely slow. Had a nice QSO though.
Semi radio related...
My two kids (5&3) decides to go inside and watch a movie instead of sitting out by the bonfire. The oldest grabs her GMRS radio and hands me mine and says "in case i need you." So now when her brother acts up I get a quack on the radio.
Another package of buro cards arrived today. All were pse QSL as well, apparently everyone is shipping cards quickly these days. So i went through the last two weeks of stations and got my buro package up to 50 cards. Only 4 of them are from my previous call sign and about a decade behind. Hope they are all sk.
After a long day I thought I might get a little radio in after everyone was asleep. Sadly the only stations that heard me were reverse beacon stations.
Everyone in the house was sick so I got to play radio. Tried out SSTV on HF and made my first QSO. Since I was on during the day light hours I was able to pick up some countries on FT8 that I hadn't worked yet. I also installed FreeDV but did not find anyone using it. Will have to make sure I get on during the next FreeDV day.
