Not a single rotated pixel in sight! Looks plausibly like a parallel universe's high-definition C64 game that, implausibly, kept the original's awful earthy-but-surreal 16-colour palette... somehow, though, that works in the game's favour. I guess I'll never turn down a good dithering, either! The soundtrack, then, is reminiscent of an imaginary SID++ and pleasantly far removed from the usual flat/plain happy-blippy Nintendo ditties that I've come to expect whenever "retro" or "chiptune" are bandied about. Great 'splosions and Star-Warsy shooting sounds, too. Oh, and the game? It's Thrust, quite faithfully so, as each and every reviewer familiar with Thrust has no doubt pointed out already. There's some added stuff like wind, conveyor belts, and darkness and illumination. Deft physicksing is required. Difficulty is adjustable, thank you very much.
If I have any quibbles, it's that each level has so far been set in the same caves-and-trees environment. A few more things to shoot (enemy drones or what have you) would've been nice, too. But, y'know, for a fiver... it's still most definitely highly recommended.
PS: There's no native Linux build, but Pilots of Darsalon works fine with Steam Play/Proton as long as you don't get any delusions about safely alt-tabbing out of the game.
