Yknow, Walmarts have a (literal) lot of empty space on top of them. Probably a good spot for some greenhouses or something. Everybody already goes there for food, having some community gardens would just enhance that ability.

Not profitable though so of course it won't happen.

@digbat That's a really solid point. Probably some engineering challenges to be solved. I wonder how hard it would be to reinforce an existing Walmart roof?

after society collapses we reinforce the Walmart roofs, set up temporary walls inside the store, and convert them into housing with rooftop gardens ยท 2 years ago

a really, really good idea - however i would guess that walmart roofs (and similar) are built to budget and may have trouble supporting extra weight of people, soil, water, and then when it snows - new planning rules: flat roof strong enough for garden on top? ยท 2 years ago
