Re: "Goodbye bbs.geminispace.org. Since there is no user level..."
Quietly avoiding what experience has shown I likely won't like works better for me. In addition to addressing an immediate need, it:
This reminds me of my boycotting Walmart "***FOREVER!!!*" - and wanting to broadcast In No Uncertain Super Clever Terms why the rest of the world should join me - because one kid wearing a vest containing the word 'Walmart' did an inconveniencing-ly disappointing job one day.
The smarter play *for me* would have been privately boycotting just that kid, maybe temporarily until having a conversation with them about how their behavior disappointed me, how the same might disappoint others, and how/why avoiding that might be in their best interests.
FWIW, my @clseibold experience has been nothing but positive. Only @skyjake has helped me more in this space.
That said, I do understand identifying with something to the point of feeling criticized when that something is criticized.
Interestingly, that which I'm responding to kinda maybe sorta seems to prove one of @clseibold's points.

I am not a perfect person, and I never claimed to be. But I personally think that I have grown in the last 4 years since I left Circumlunar Space. Of course I am still going to have a problem with tech culture's exclusivism, and I am still going to point it out when I see it.
I know all too well that I don't get along with everyone. My ideas do not match the ideas of many other people. I don't believe in the way some people in the Gopher community thought up small communities back in 2019, because they were exclusivistic and cult-like. That is why I moved to Gemini, because Gemini is completely different.
Solderpunk's goal with Gemini was never about excluding people on the basis of not beinga ble to use a terminal like the goal of some of the gopher community was. Gemini was more universal and emphasized power-to-weight ratio. Some of the best innovators in Geminispace have emphasized good design and usability - Kennedy, practically all of @skyjake 's projects, Gemipedia, Station, Astrobotany, etc.
From 2018 to 2021 I was in a bad place. I got enveloped in cult-like tech communities. There is a reason I fight so hard against these tendencies now, and that is because my experience being in and around them for so long was extremely difficult.
I think Gemini has real potential to fight against the terrible design and overcommercialization of the Web, but I think it can only do that when we let go of these tech-culture tendencies. People are not going to like this, but this is what I wholeheartedly believe.

I don't think this level of putting anyone on the spot is necessary in spaces like these anyhow. I'd suggest reconsidering activity in any gemini-based platforms if this is conduct that'somehow seems appropriate to approach whenever you personally have issues self-moderating your feed + navigating anybody on this protocol cordially given we're all enthusiasts who only want to continue development and interaction around these networks at the end of the day.
Mind you, none of this is said w/ any kind of mean-spirited criticism, rathern than it is with concern and common courtesy in the interest we all stay humble and neighborly amongst ourselves here in the smallnet, as it oughta be. We're all humans, after all.

I am sorry to hear that also. I did not intend to add fuel to the fire. I was just being honest and objective as a matter of fact. As with all things, they both have their issues that need to be recognised and addressed honestly. I had no intentions of being confrontational or insult anyone. Just stating twelve years of observation. Thank you for allowing us to do that here skyjake. :)

@sloum again I'd just like to state, in case you're still checking activity here, that everything I've said below is not with any malice, it's all peace and love.
I thought I'd add some perspective as this reminds me of a similar sitch from months before here on Bubble, where 2 users were having trouble inferring whether one or the other was being passive aggressive, blowing it up on the feed for everybody. IDR their handles, tho I do remember that time, making it known the smallnet just isn't for that kind of social networking. Most ppl come here to get away from that level of toxic web3-like behavior and the petty arguments which follow.
Something that might be useful to keep in mind.
Goodbye bbs.geminispace.org. Since there is no user level blucking here and user clseibold exists here, I will not exist here. They are toxic to any community they are a part of (see: circumlunar space). Good luck to you all. Thanks for all the fish.
