Hangul in Geminispace

Recently I went digging around in Geminispace for some Korean content. Searching for various grammatical particles like "는" and "를" through GUS turns up zero results. I suppose there could be some Korean Gemini servers hiding out on the fringes somewhere, but so far I have not come across anything on the GUS' list of known servers. Which is too bad! Korea seems to be typically underrepresented on new, niche platforms like Gemini or even in the Fediverse.

I decided to start a Korean gemlog on a new Gemini server I got running[1]. Eventually, the Raspberry Pi on which the server runs will hopefully become a pubnix of sorts (and maybe one day even a Korean-language pubnix???). The project from which this stems is a kind of tech collective working to advocate the use and development of free software, technological literacy, and DIY community-based alternatives to commercial services. At some point in the near future it will become an educational resource for Korean speakers in particular.

Anyway, in anticipation of these experiments, I thought I'd see how Korean works with Gemini. It seems that Korean text is not a problem at all for Gemini itself. I did find, however, that some clients do not like having Korean in the URL. I'm curious what the best-practice is for URLS---if there is some reason I should avoid naming my folders and files in Korean. It seems weird to awkwardly name the folders and files of Korean content in a language other than Korean, although, I realize that is standard on the web.

Anyway, this little gemlog is a first step in evangelizing Gemini here in Korea.

If you know of or come across Korean content on Gemini let me know! Or, if you are interested in writing Korean content on Gemini defeinitely reach out! Eventually it would be fun to setup a Spacewalk or CAPCOM stream of Korean gemlogs (or, as I have dubbed them 雙錄).
