When it comes to Unicode tricks, this should be on the less harmful side. I wonder how well text-to-speech systems generally deal with these? At least macOS's native one just ignores the spurious underscores.

It doesn't look like a uniform underline here. It's cut in several pieces.
Just figured out what combining d̲i̲a̲c̲r̲i̲t̲i̲c̲a̲l̲ ̲m̲a̲r̲k̲s̲ are when I saw two gemlogs with underlined text.
