I'm Christian. I used to be called "krixano" and I was the one who ran AuraGem (formerly Ponix) before I was unable to continue paying the domain name. I have graduated with a B.A. in Theology and minor in Computer Science now. I write articles on Theology and other topics on my new capsule.

Also, expect AuraGem to be revived in the future... :)

Started working on that new game idea. Haven't gotten very far, but I've already had to rethink some things because of it being multiplayer. I think I might combine it with a previous game project that I had. The biggest problem is my previous game project was written in Odin, and now I have to rewrite it in Golang, and Golang does some things a bit weirdly. Anyways, initially the idea was just a game of links that you would click to do different actions, but that's a bit too boring. I might be...

I think I have thought up an idea for a game I want to built on gemini, inspired by Frostpunk. A long time ago I used to play this game online called NationStates, where you would be a leader of a country and enact laws and these laws change different things about your country. Frostpunk has similar ideas, but is more city-builder than country management. So I wonder what it would be like to combine the two *and* add a more social element. The interface would be more like those text-based web...

New post! This was something I wrote in late 2022 (a little over a year ago) but took down, iirc, about an hour after I pushlished it. [gemini link] Re: "If X You Shouldn't Release Software"

— Linux, Our Savior and Redeemer

I've decided I will be posting a specific article that I wrote about Unix and Linux, called "Linux, Our Savior and Redeemer", and I won't be toning it down. If Linux users get offended, I don't really care anymore, because it's not my problem. You can read it here:

I don't know why, but ever since switching to Firefox a few months ago, it has been using significantly more ram than Chrome/Edge and so over time it ends up lagging out my whole system. I've switched back to Edge because of this. Something weird is going on with Firefox recently, almost like there's a memory leak or something. Does anyone know anything about this?

I believe I have fixed most of the bugs for my live chat. Btw, this chat system livestreams text in an infinite connection. There are some browsers (like amfora) that don't support this, but lagrange and diohsc should. You can try the chat here: [gemini link] AuraGem Live Chat Also, this should serve as a lesson in software development: 1. I was the only person who was having this bug, and nobody else said they had the bug, but I still fixed it anyways! I could have just let it be since it...

New devlog post that talks about my recent updates to my radio stuff, and a new idea I'm experimenting with, called "Textola": [gemini link]

Working on that new thing for AuraGem :)

Ever since I started working on the new Old Time Radio Station for AuraGem's Public Radio, I've also been wanting to do video livestreaming of public domain movies from the Silent Films era (as well as some of the earliest Talkies that are now in the public domain), and call it AuraGem Public TV. Unfortunately, no gemini browser supports video streaming quite yet, so there would be no way to do this that will work for most people atm. I then got to thinking about the ways in which...

SIS Devlog — I've got rate-limiting working for my Smallnet Information Services (SIS) project! I've also got max concurrent connections handled (using semaphors), as well as simple IP blocking, and TLS Handshakes are also time-limited. The next security thing I need to handle are idle timeouts.

I've still been working on my Smallnet Information Services (SIS) project. I've been taking this project slower than normal, and I think it's helping me to polish up things more before release. I have finally gotten to the point of starting to move my capsule over to using it, so that's exciting! I just need to implement Titan and Misfin next. I may release SIS before finishing the Gopher implementation, because it turns out that Gopher is a bit harder to handle, especially if you are trying...

Reading a recent post on Medium from someone who claims to have a psychology degree reminds me just how toxic internet psychology talk is, especially on TikTok.

Server Security and Bubble Spam — Wow, lots of spam on here recently. This is a good time for all server owners to make sure the security of their servers is good. This involves connections having idle timeouts (timeout after not sending something over the connection for a certain amount of time). Also, if you run a streaming service (like my AuraGem Public Radio), you might want to limit the number of connections an IP can make to that stream, since those connections are infinitely connected....

— Ascension day ponderings

Re: Ascension day ponderings — Interesting post by Solderpunk that I just happened to have seen while looking at their gemlog: "All my Finnish friends had 'confirmations', a kind of second baptism which happens at adolescence" Because I have graduated with a Theology major, however, I do feel a duty to add a correction: Confirmation is *not* a second baptism. Second baptisms are...

SIS Update: Proxying Routes Between Servers — Been working on this really cool feature for SIS that I finally got completely working, and I'm very happy with it! It lets you proxy routes from one of the servers to another server at a specific route on the server. This means you can serve a file on the gemini server from the nex server, and vice versa. For example, you could proxy the nex server on the gemini server at "/nex/". The best feature of this, however, is that it will automatically...

SIS Update — Inching closer to being done with most of my SIS (Smallnet Information Services) project. It will allow you to create multiple servers of various different smallnet protocols (Gemini, Gopher, Misfin, and Nex), manage them with a gemini admin interface, and interact between these different servers and various text formats (gemtext, nex directory listing, plain text, gophermap, markdown, etc.). I will talk about the rest of the details when I release it in hopefully a couple days :D

I'm about 15-25% done with my new project. I've decided to call it Smallnet Information Services (SIS), and yes, it's inspired by IIS (Internet Information Services), which should hopefully give hints to what it actually is. I am trying to make this project very easy to setup like I did with my misfinserver project, which also means providing ways to transfer a pre-existing setup from other software to SIS. More details coming soon! :D

I've been working on a fun new project of bringing some smallnet protocols like Misfin, Gemini, nex, and Gopher to Windows XP, and I was able to successfully send a misfin mail to my server on Windows XP (using TLS 1.2)!!!! Unfortunately, I want my server to be TLS 1.3 only becasue misfin pretty much requires the use of client certs., so I will need to get 1.3 supported in the Windows XP client. I am using Golang 1.10 on Windows XP, which doesn't support TLS 1.3, so I might look into either...

Just found this Nushell. This is very close to what I have been wanting modern shells to be! I'm definitely excited to look more into it.

Fun fact: .rc files stem from CTSS and Multics' runcom files, and .ec files stem from Multics' exec_com files. These were both files that contained (shell) commands that you can run on demand and give arguments to, and they also featured control flow. The concept of runcoms was designed and implemented by Louis Pouzin on CTSS, and then Pouzin refers to runcom in his design for a "shell" for Multics. Multics' runcom command was basically renamed to exec_com in one of its updates, at least that's...

— Games Are How Big Now?!

Re: Games Are How Big Now?! — Are these games good enough to be worth it? Most of them aren't, but frostpunk is probably the best game I've ever played in my life. I was obsessed with that game for weeks. The storyline and gameplay was so well done, and I love the city-builder-like survival type simulator strategy games. Games like Foundation, Going Medieval, and Frostpunk. I'm very excited for...

Misfin-server Version 0.5.2 and Misfinmail Version 0.4.4 — Big fix: Blank lines in messages are no longer stripped.

💬 3 comments · Oct 05 · 3 months ago

🚀 clseibold

Misfinmail Client Version 0.4.3 Update — Misfinmail will now only fetch and save new messages to your local gembox, which means the whole local gembox will not be overwritten with the entire gembox from the gemini fetch address. This allows you to delete mail from your local gembox without them coming back after a fetch. This gives a similar interface to a POP3 server configured to never delete messages from the server. When you delete from your local gembox, the message is not deleted from...

Misfin-Server Documentation — I have updated the documentation for my misfin-server. I intend to update it some more to make things more clear and organized and easy to follow. Once this is done, I intend to start working on a gemini page for the software. Suggestions are welcome.

I am thinking about changing the name of my misfin-server and misfinmail projects to something else, but I haven't come up with something good yet. The reason I'm considering changing the names is because the names need to be something that can be distinguished from the name of the protocol itself as well as from other misfin software.
